Fit moms and healthy babies
A group for weight loss, fitness and healthier eating
More than 40% of women who live in Baltimore City are obese. Obesity can lead to pregnancy problems and health issues. It can also have an affect on the whole family. The B’more Fit for Healthy Babies program helps moms take charge and address all of those concerns.
A professional fitness trainer from the Y of Central Maryland or Brick Bodies will lead you through postnatal workout exercise classes. Classes are held in English or Spanish. You will also learn exercises you can easily do at home. Exercise can help you lose weight and control diabetes and high blood pressure. You can learn about making healthful food choices and budgeting for nutritious foods for the entire family. We’ll also introduce you to the Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) weight-loss program. This program offers you guidance and support when you attend meetings with other moms like you. Childcare and transportation are provided on a first come, first served basis.
The B’more Fit for Healthy Babies program is for women who have a BMI over 25 and a child under the age of 5. Women ages 18 to 44 who live in Baltimore City and who receive public assistance (including WIC, SNAP, TCA) are eligible to join.
