Dr. Dawn Jacobs is a highly respected and accomplished pharmacist whose career has been defined by leadership, service, and a deep commitment to patient care and education. She began her academic journey at Morgan State University, where she graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. With a strong foundation in the sciences, she pursued her passion for pharmacy by enrolling at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. In 1998, she earned her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, solidifying her path in the pharmaceutical field.

Following graduation, Dr. Jacobs began her professional career with NeighborCare Professional Pharmacies, where she dedicated 11 years to serving diverse patient populations. During her tenure at NeighborCare, she advanced into leadership roles, serving as the pharmacy manager at both the Dundalk and Orleans Square locations. In these roles, she was instrumental in optimizing pharmacy operations, mentoring staff, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care.

In 2009, Dr. Jacobs joined Baltimore Medical System (BMS) as the Director of Pharmacy. In this pivotal leadership role, she is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of four outpatient pharmacies within the organization. Her responsibilities are extensive and impactful, ranging from ensuring regulatory compliance and operational efficiency to implementing strategies that improve medication access and patient outcomes.

Dr. Jacobs also plays a vital role in guiding the clinical direction of BMS’s pharmacy services. She chairs the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, where she leads discussions and decisions about the selection and use of medications across the system. Additionally, she co-chairs the Joint Commission Medication Management Committee, working to uphold best practices and standards in medication safety and efficacy. She also serves on the Pain Management Working Group, contributing to the development of safe prescribing protocols and supporting efforts to address chronic pain and opioid stewardship.

Beyond her administrative and clinical responsibilities, Dr. Jacobs is deeply invested in the future of the pharmacy profession. She serves as a dedicated preceptor for students from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, providing mentorship, training, and real-world experience to the next generation of pharmacists. Her commitment to professional development and education underscores her belief in continuous learning and excellence in pharmacy practice.
