Baltimore Medical System Receives $100,000 in Grants from Truist for Relocation of Middlesex Health Center

February 8, 2022 / Destiny Johnson

Baltimore (February 8, 2022) – Baltimore Medical System (BMS), the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) system in Maryland, today announced it received $100,000 in grants from Truist Financial Corporation through its Truist Charitable Fund, a donor-advised fund at The Winston-Salem Foundation, and Truist Foundation to support the relocation and expansion of its Middlesex Health Center.

“We are extremely grateful to Truist for this significant contribution to our new BMS at Middlesex Health Center,” said Shirley Sutton, president and CEO, Baltimore Medical System. “Our new, larger space will offer a more comfortable environment for our patients and allow us to add new staff and services. This generous contribution from Truist will directly support our ability to provide even more comprehensive care to address the complex health care needs of our community and reach more of the 37,000 low-income residents who are not currently accessing health care services.”

“Helping Baltimore Medical System provide critical services to low-income individuals and families is another demonstration of Truist’s purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities,” said Greg Farno, Maryland regional president for Truist. “This grant will help support the expansion of the new Middlesex Health Center and increase its ability to care for, and have a positive impact on, vulnerable members of our community.”

Currently located at 1245 Eastern Boulevard, BMS at Middlesex will move to 9504 Philadelphia Road to a new space, doubling its current footprint as it continues its work to improve the health, wellness, and quality of life for underserved residents of eastern Baltimore County. The new Middlesex Health Center is expected to open in spring/summer 2022.

Baltimore Medical System operates eight community health centers, three pharmacies and eight school-based health sites around Baltimore, and serves more than 60,000 patients annually, including those who are underserved and uninsured.
